School Gardening Project SPg 2023
Youth Future Farmers of Africa (YoFFA) Uganda will partner with 12 secondary schools and 01 primary school in Uganda to implement this year’s School Gardening Project SPG 2023. The schools involved in this project include St. Mary's College Kisubi, Iganga Girls’ Secondary School, Progressive Secondary School Kitintale, Mama Kevina Comprehensive Secondary School Tororo, Light College & Vocational School Bulega, St. Gracious Secondary School Lira, Namboole High School, Grace High School, Zana Mixed Secondary School, Global Eden Secondary School Koboko, Nakaseke International School, Ngora Girls School, and Truth Primary School Kotido. These schools were selected due to their commitment and intentionality in using the School Gardening Project SPG 2022 to meaningfully and impactfully engage their students in the project activities and most importantly, their ability to share their school project stories with the leadership at YoFFA and with other Ag educators via our WhatsApp group. In this year’s program, a few schools were selected due to limited resources available to the YoFFA leadership. However, we continue to fundraise for more resources so as to be able to provide the much-needed resources at the school level for practical agricultural education.
With this project, YoFFA Uganda collaborates with local school chapters to provide over 1000 students with hands-on skills in vegetable growing, engage them in more purposeful & meaningful agricultural education, teach them about food & nutritional security, educate them about environmental sustainability, involve them in career and leadership development activities, and inspire them to serve as change agents in their farming communities.
With the commencement of rains, we hope schools have their gardens ready and are able to start the implementation of the SPG 2023 program shortly after they receive their requested seeds.
